Uile-bheist

Uile-bheist is the closest distillery to Ness Walk Hotel, just an 8-minute walk across the river. This is a modern distillery and brewery in the city of Inverness. Nestled on the banks of the River Ness, the distillery is named after the Loch Ness Monster (Uile-bheist means monster in Gaelic). It produces whisky and beer and also offers tours and experiences to visitors. In addition, there’s a Taproom and Waterside Restaurant overlooking the river.

The distillery and brewery

Opened in 2023, this is the first new whisky distillery to be built in Inverness for 130 years. Therefore, it is very modern in its approach and makes use of the latest technology. However, the innovative production methods still maintain the traditional principles at the heart of Single Malt Scotch Whisky production. There is also a brewery, which brews local craft ales and lagers. The whisky is made with locally-sourced barley, while the beer is made from locally grown and malted barley and Scottish oats. Both use the River Ness’s fast-flowing waters.

Tours and experiences

Learn about the art of whisky and beer creation with a tour of the distillery and brewery at the visitor centre. The tours let you into some of Uile-bheist’s production secrets, as well as exploring the history and legends of the region. Enjoy some tasting samples along the way.
