Throughout the world, people know the legend of Loch Ness and its monster. The loch is the largest in volume in the British Isles due to its enormous depth. At 230 metres, Loch Ness is the perfect place for a mighty monster to hide. In and around the loch, there are countless opportunities to enjoy the spectacle, the nature, the myths and the legends.

Adrenaline seekers can kayak in Nessie’s cold waters or hike the picturesque peaks across the area. However, if you fancy a more laid-back experience, take comfort on one of the many cruises available. Your guests can venture into the loch with renowned Nessie researcher Alan McKenna from Loch Ness Exploration and listen to any potential sounds from the Loch with our 60-foot hydrophone.

Urquhart Castle

The ruins of Urquhart Castle are dramatically nestled on the shores of the mystical Loch Ness and the Great Glen. Formally one of the largest castles in Scotland, this attraction has over 1000 years of medieval history. Although it lies mostly in ruin, having been victim to countless sieges at the height of its use, a wander amongst the grounds of this site that played host to many dramatic chapters in Scottish history is a must!

The Loch Ness Centre

Located at the site of the very first sighting, The Loch Ness Centre offers you a chance to explore the history of Loch Ness. And, you may even spot ‘Nessie’ yourself! Explore interactive experiences, learn about the various sightings over the years. Walk through 500 million years of ancient myths, legends and history.

A Must On Your Outlander Tour

No Outlander Tour would be complete without a visit to Loch Ness. Author Diana Gabaldon gracefully named its mythical creature ‘The Water Horse’, that Claire spots from Urquhart Castle. And so Nessie and the ancient castle have etched themselves in the history of this thrilling series of novels and television.
