Enjoy Scotland in springtime

Spring in Inverness is lively, with plenty of activities and showcases of Scotland’s culture and community. There’s always plenty of things to do in spring when exploring the capital city of the Highlands. Here are some highlights that guests of Ness Walk can to look forward to at this charming time of year.

Events & concerts

With the weather becoming more reliably dry, spring is when we start enjoying being outside more. A highlight of the whole year takes place in late May – The Gathering Festival. This is an opportunity to truly immerse yourself in Scottish culture, with traditional music played alongside some of the country’s finest musicians. There’s also plenty of Scottish streetfood available to try with locally brewed drinks, too.

Other special events in Inverness this spring include the Rum & Vodka Festival Inverness, taking place at the end of May at Eden Court Theatre. With hundreds different craft gins and spirits under  one roof, you’re sure to find a new favourite tipple. If you are more of a whisky drinker, then the Spirit of Speyside, taking place between 30 April and 5 May 2025 is where you should be. It is made up of hundreds of events, each one celebrating Scotland’s national drink.

If cars are more your thing, then the Inverness Car Show is for you. Taking place on Sun 18th May 2025, hundreds of performance cars will be on display to look at and speak to their owners.

For indoor concerts, there’s no better place to look than Eden Court Theatre. Just a short stroll from the hotel, this theatre has a great reputation worldwide for showing opera, ballet, performance and cinema. Take a look at their programme to plan your visit.

Activities

Cyclists and cycling fans from all over the world gather each April near Inverenss for the Etape Loch Ness. This is Scotland’s largest closed road cycle sportive and takes place over 66 miles (106 km) on traffic free roads. Offering views of the stunning landscape, the route begins and ends here in Inverness. Whether you have planned to take part or would like to cheer on the athletes, it’s a festival atmosphere around Inverness and the loch on the 27th April 2025.

For runners, the Loch Ness Half Marathon takes place in early March. Runners can also choose a 5K option, but whatever your running ability this route makes for a stunning race. The marathon route begins alongside the banks of the River Ness and continues through the city until reaching Queen’s Park Stadium at Inverness Sports Centre. The 5K route is flat and scenic alongside the banks of the River Ness, and the atmosphere is friendly.
