Our kitchen team’s focus on using only local, and ethical produce means Highland staples from across our land and sea feature on our seasonal menus in Torrish.

A Journey from Inverness to South Africa

We’re looking back on November’s supper club. We invited you to an extraordinary evening where history, heritage, and the art of winemaking converge. From the Highlands of Scotland to the sun-drenched vineyards of South Africa, this was a tale of generations bound by a shared passion for creating something truly exceptional.

In the early 20th century, a family from Lithuania sought new beginnings in Inverness, making this historic city their home. While some remained, establishing the renowned Finklestein Jewellers—whose timeless signage still graces the Victorian Market—others embarked on a different journey, venturing to South Africa to forge a new chapter.

One such descendant, Peter-Allan Finlayson, inherited his family’s unwavering dedication to craft. Today, he continues that legacy in the world of wine, as the visionary behind Crystallum, one of South Africa’s most celebrated wineries, known for its exquisite Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays.

Dining Experience

The evening began with a glass of ‘Rosebud’ from Gabriëlskloof, a crisp, refreshing rosé from the Cape South Coast, perfectly suited to set the tone for the night ahead. We were absolutely thrilled and honoured to have Peter-Allan Finlayson join us from South Africa. His presence promises to elevate this evening to something truly extraordinary, offering personal insights into his family’s rich legacy and the wines we will be enjoying.

Each course paired with carefully selected wines, enhancing the flavours of every dish and weaving a seamless connection between the Highlands and South Africa’s coastal vineyards. Peter-Allan guided us through this gastronomic journey, an unforgettable celebration of craft, history, and passion, from the vineyards to your glass.

So, the vision is to bring together a community and interactive element to an industry that is often perceived as ‘stuffy’. Plus, special guests symbolic to the evening’s theme will be invited.
