Whisky Itinerary
Highland whisky tour from Inverness
This is a one-day self-guided Highland whisky tour for guests of Ness Walk Hotel in Inverness. It includes 1 hour of driving time in the morning, plus some walking in the afternoon.
Morning
Breakfast – After a comfortable night’s sleep at Ness Walk, start the morning with a hearty breakfast in the hotel and then get ready to explore!
Stop 1 – For your morning activity, we suggest a visit to The Singleton Distillery at Glen Ord. It is around a 30-minute drive northwest from Ness Walk Hotel. As one of three distilleries which produces The Singleton whisky, its new visitor centre offers a wide range of visitor tours and experiences. The distillery was founded in 1838 and offers an insight into Scotland’s rich history of whisky production. If you’re the designated driver, you don’t have to miss out on the tasting. Ask for a sample to take away with you.
Lunch – The distillery has a deli, which serves a range of locally-produced food. But if you want to venture out into nearby Muir of Ord, there are more options for lunch. Such as Matilda’s Garden Café in the heart of the Estate of Ord, or Oliveira’s Kitchen at the local golf club.
Afternoon
Stop 3 – After lunch, head back to Ness Walk and park in the hotel car park. Our afternoon itinerary requires no further driving, so that everyone can enjoy the whisky activities. From here, take a short 8-minute walk to Uile-bheist. This contemporary distillery offers a contrast to the historic one we visited this morning. It opened in 2023 and has a very modern approach, making use of the latest technology. It is also a brewery, so you can learn about whisky and beer production on one of their tours.
Stop 4 – If you haven’t found the souvenirs you’re looking for at the distillery gift shops, you can browse some of the many whisky shops in Inverness. You’ll find plenty of choice when it comes to Scotch malt whisky from all over the Highlands and beyond. Walk north along the river towards the city centre shops for about 5 or 10 minutes. Here you’ll find The Whisky Shop, Highland Whisky Shop and Inverness Whisky.
Evening
Dinner – Back at Ness Walk Hotel, you can enjoy a relaxing fine dining experience in Torrish Restaurant. Either before or after dinner, book a whisky flight experience, available until 8 pm. Here you can savour carefully curated whiskies. With our knowledgeable bar team on hand, you can relax and enjoy one of these self-guided tastings at your own pace. Or choose a nightcap from our extensive whisky and spirit menu in our cosy bar, before retiring to your 5-star hotel room.
